The Ozark Witch Hazel, or Hamamelis vernalis, is unique shrub native to the Ozarks, but also found in parts of Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas. It’s the first spring bloomer in our area with blooms often found as early as January! This easily grown shrub grows best in well drain soils in full sun to partial shade. It’s fragrance is welcomed mid-winter along with its blooms that can range in color from pale yellow to reddish purple. This plant can be found on zoo grounds in the North American area of the zoo near the wolf habitat!
